6/19/2011 Blue Star ferry from Athens/Piraeus to Mykonos, Mykonos/Hotel Tagoo, dinner at Appalossa

Check out.  Charge for 3 nights hotel with breakfast (585€), laundry (33€), one phone call (.60€).  Total was 618.60€/$884.96USD.  We had coffee and a slice of pound cake as it's way to early for the breakfast buffet.  Loved our stay here.  Staff was exceptionally nice and helpful.  Location was great for us as walking distance to much of what we did.  Would stay here again.

Reception-check out

BLUE STAR FERRY.  Our taxi is right on time.  Cost from our hotel to port Piraeus was 20€.  Not much traffic.  Only took 20 minutes.  Our ferry departs 7:35 am.  In no time at all we're boarding!  I'm excited to be using the Greek ferry system.  We store 3 pieces of luggage in the hold area.  We have seats in lounge A2,  #87 and #88.  The better lounge is A1.  This is the Star Ithaki.  It has lounges 1 and 2 on each side of the ship.  Aft of Business Class and near the toilets.  Lounges 3 and 4 are larger at the center left of the ship.  I took pictures as we're leaving.  You can purchase food and drinks.  I got water, orange juice, and a muffin-6.25€.  I notice that lots of people buy the cheaper seats and then look to move to empty ones that are better.  The toilet area was spacious and clean.  You can't flush the TP.  Walked around checking out the ship.  There's a deck area where you can sit also.  It was a very easy, relaxing time.  Wish I knew the names of the islands we passed.  We made 2 stops.  I think maybe Syros and Tinos??  We arrived to Mykonos a little after 1:00 pm.

MYKONOS.  Part of the Cyclades group of islands.  Sandy beaches, nightlife.  Mykonos town is the main town.  White alleys, cube shaped houses.  Narrow lanes, bustling port.

HOTEL TAGOO.   This hotel got rave reviews on Trip Advisor so I booked our stay here in January 2011.  We will be here for 3 nights.  Cost for standard sea view room with breakfast would be 255€.  We are met in port where the ferry drops us off by Yanni.  He has a sign with the name of the hotel which we spot right away.  Check in is very informal, friendly.  Anna who is Yanni's wife tells us there will be a meeting by the pool tonight at 7:30 pm I think she had said.  She will give us a list of restaurants, beaches, etc.  Our room is #18.  It is quite large which is good.  Beds look comfy.  Mini fridge, TV, desk.  Bathroom is shower only.  We have a balcony with 2 chairs and a small table.  A view of the pool and the sea!

Richard is anxious to be at the pool so we quickly unpack, change and hang out at this large pool until 6:00 pm.  We had over 3 hours at the pool!

Richard is in the pool!

He's so happy!

There's a small cafe by the pool

Then we shower, and get ready for our meeting with Anna.  Nice views of dusk.  Cruise ship either coming or going.  She gives us information about the restaurants, beaches, car/bike/quad rental.  Then we have a complimentary glass of ouzo.  Yummy.  Gorgeous sunset.

We stay by the pool after our meeting with Anna to watch the sunset

We're undecided about dinner because it's late but we're hungry so......  We decided to walk into town for dinner as it's downhill and a bit over a mile.  Good exercise.  Along the way we take in the island lit up at night.  It is just so pretty.

APPALOSSA.  Dinner.  Mexican!  Walked from our hotel to this place as the walk is down hill-about 1 mile.  On Anna's list.  I got the chicken burrito with rice and salad.  Richard got the chili tostada.  Drinks for us both-cokes.  Food was yummy, service was excellent.  This was a great choice and a nice change from Greek food.  I think the cost was under 30€.  We took a taxi back as the walk back is uphill.  My legs don't like that!  Cost  of taxi was 4€.
